About Kiddos 101 - Who We Are
Kiddos 101 is a child-led learning environment. We believe unstructured play time can greatly improve a child's mental and physical abilities.
We are an early childhood enrichment center, filled with open-ended play opportunities, which can facilitate a child’s overall growth and development. We encourage utilizing the space as a part of a child’s regularly weekly activities for maximum results. The space is designed to be used a minimum of once a week for as much time the child remains interested. There is no need to rush the child from one station to another. A child may spend an entire visit in one area. On their next visit, they may be ready to explore something new, or come back to where they left off. Whatever their pace, whatever their interest, it’s ok!
Regular and self-paced visits can greatly improve imagination, curiosity, problem solving skills, risk assessment, spatial awareness, confidence, social skills and relationship building. In turn, we believe this can create a stronger community into grade school and beyond, greatly decreasing incidents of future bullying, harassment, drug use, gang violence, and other behavioral issues that can be a result of isolation or feeling unknown.
In addition, we are designed to meet the desires of caregivers seeking community and support from their peers. Whether you are a new parent, grandparent, relative, foster family, or nanny, Kiddos 101 creates opportunities for social engagement, and even better, friendships, for adults with repeat visits.
While adult supervision is required at all times, we do offer parents space and services to do work, including free wi-fi, although we strongly encourage limiting cell phone use and the amount of time you spend away from your child, during visits. While we believe that it is important to give a child space (depending on age and ability) we desire that caregivers engage with the child throughout the visit.
Asking open-ended questions of the child like, “What are you making?,” “How did you do that?,” “Why did you do it that way?,” “What would happen if you added/took away this?,” can help the child make new observations and create a path for understanding a new idea or concept.
Parents and caregivers are a child’s first teacher. Caregivers have an important role in learning when they engage during play with intention, taking care to guide, rather than dictate, what is happening during play.
Nestled in the valley of Canyon Crest, between a babbling brook and pond, our boutique play space is a climate controlled, relaxing environment of approximately 2,000 square feet, consisting of two main areas, intentionally arranged with thought-provoking activities and interactive areas based on learning group skill levels. The space is rotated on a quarterly basis, keeping it interesting for long-term use.
Level One is designed to engage children ages 6 weeks - 2 years. In this age group, children are primarily learning through the senses and muscle development. There are tummy time stations for newborns, along with mirrors at ground level to strengthen the neck muscles. There are pull up bars for learning to stand, also with mirrors, creating self-awareness to analyze their movement. There are discovery baskets with developmental wooden toys, plush items, and colored stacking items. A seating area around the perimeter of the Level One area allows for the child to pull up and exercise leg muscles, while providing ample seating for caregivers to participate in their children’s play.
Level Two is geared to children ages 2 - 6 years. It includes a play structure with pole and two slides, a 2-story playhouse that encloses interactive light tables, a dress up house, living area, train table, library, rainbow area, music area, open-ended blocks, loose parts, and natural materials, along with rotating hands-on activities utilizing other portions of the interior play space. Lastly, there is a small staircase (two steps) with a landing to help toddlers safely master stairs, climbing, and adjusting to various heights and levels.
Ultimately, Kiddos 101 provides children with the requisites necessary to develop basic motor skills, social skills, muscle tone, and self-confidence and provides facilities where caregivers will enjoy hours of close interaction with their children and other adults, in a motivating, community based, environment.
